Symphyotrichum divaricatum, or Southern Saltmarsh Aster, is native to the South-Central United States. It is an annual that grows in swamps, marshes, wet meadows and fields, pond margins, but can also be found in fields and lawns, and it grows back well, even in the face of persistent mowing. It blooms from summer into late winter, with purple-blue flowers.
This plant looks similar to some other members of the genus. More information will be posted at a later time about differentiating other species.
